Join us for some chills in the summer heat with a 2 day Japanese horror film festival at Logan Theatre! The weekend boasts classic Japanese horror hits with VIP parties that include talks, drinks with Suntory, partnership with horror themed coffee shop The Brewed, and a VERY special photo booth you won't have to wait 7 days to see the outcome...*hint*

TICKETS:

  • $15 per single film
  • $25 for night (two films)
  • $45 for night of films and pre-party drinks and fun with Suntory
  • $80 for the whole weekend of films and parties

Pre-Party includes complimentary Suntory Highballs, and themed cocktails in partnership with The Brewed Coffee, fine art print of poster created by JAF board member and artist Derrick Fields, tickets to the films, Ringu themed photo booth, 1 raffle ticket, talks, and MORE!

DAY 1: Ju-On / Ringu

Hair and Horror:

The Horror Fest kicks off with screenings of Ju-On and Ringu, two horror films whose storylines and aesthetics have strong influence in both Japan and the United States. Between film screenings we will host a presentation and Q&A facilitated by Anna Duong-Topp, a former researcher of Japanese religions from the University of Chicago. Anna will present on the history of hair and horror in Japan, contextualizing these themes with images of evil from Ju-On and Ringu.

DAY 2: Hausu / Kwaidan

Retro Horror that Shaped the Field:

Day two takes us back decades to view some staple films that shaped the image of Japanese horror drawing upon tradition and innovation! Talks explore the importance of these films and their fascinating history!
