About this Event
This 2-day workshop is an introduction to Japanese papermaking and printmaking within a comfortable, professional artist studio in Glasgow. During this particular weekend workshop, Parade Artists will be hosting their Winter sale within the gallery space at Hanson Street, bringing a festive energy to those visiting the building. Pulp will also provide some seasonal treats for participants during the weekend course, so come and enjoy a fantastic learning experience with tutors Alison Newman and Elspeth Lamb and begin the Festive season.
During the workshop itself, participants will process and use specialist Oriental plant fibres such as Kozo, Gampi and Mitsumata to make a lovely selection of papers in various sizes on the first day. An introduction to Japanese Mokuhanga printing will then unfold over the following day. Woodblocks will be carved and a small edition printed on Japanese papers using traditional cutting knives, Japanese inking brushes and barens (printing pads). Printing on beautiful Kozo paper, you will produce unique prints in the Japanese woodblock tradition. Demonstrations and samples of work will also be shown.
Taught by expert printmaker / artist Elspeth Lamb in combination with Alison Newman @ PULP: Paper Arts Workshop. Both are experienced tutors and have visited and studied with masters in Japan.
