This week is an extended special, featuring two outstanding acts:
GEORGE ST CLAIR
UK Based, US Born Singer/Songwriter with new album, Ballads of Captivity and Freedom out worldwide physically and digitally on March 2nd, 2018
RnR Magazine
'There is a slick earthiness that rests across the songs, emphasises the debt St Clair clearly owes to the likes of Jackson Browne and early Eagles. St Clair's voice shares the same delicate tone as Browne's and is the perfect vehicle to communicate the songs - floating over the background of finger style and flat picked guitars. However, the tunes also stretch out into other territories - hybrid country-pop/ rock, Southern Rock'.
ROGER ASKEW
Wistful reflections and impressive musicianship from UK producer and songwriter.
With the authenticity of his voice and honesty of his lyrics. Roger will bring an duo flavour of Americana to the stage to seduce our ears.
A man of many talents, Roger Askew has devoted much of his career to engineering and producing records for the likes of Joe Strummer, Wilko Johnson and Peggy Seeger as well as earning gold and platinum discs for his work with Christy Moore. Originally from the northeast of England, he moved south and eventually joined the well-established band Bliss, playing keyboards and Hammond organ. Now based on the south coast of England, Askew has more recently focused on writing songs for Charlie Austen and Emma Ballantine, among many others and with “Somewhere South Of Here”, comes his fourth album of original music.
As well as producing, Askew plays many of the instruments heard on the record. There are several other notable contributions, including Barbara Bartz on violin, Olly Blanchflower on double bass and Roger Nunn on drums. Charlie Austen contributes backing vocals, and Ben Tyzack adds slide guitar on ‘Sail My Ship’.
JASON MCNIFF
Jason is a troubadour who has made nine albums which people call Folk, Americana, or Alt. Country. There is an Englishness in his guitar playing however, and you might like to think of Bert Jansch or Wizz Jones meeting John Prine & Townes Van Zandt. Time Out writes, ‘McNiffs quiet, intimate, fragile-sounding vocals draw you into his world, an almost timeless place, through which he drifts, a romantic loner, a dreamer, at home with the blues.’ He is often touted as one of the UKs most overlooked musical treasures.
'I love Jason's version (of Fisherman's blues)'
Mike Scott, The Waterboys
'Jason's versions sound so fresh, whilst staying true to Bert's timeless music'
