The Gilmer County Genealogical Society will hold its first meeting of the new year on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the lower level meeting room of the Gilmer County Library. In addition to sharing goals for 2025 and recruiting volunteers for various activities, Ellen Canup Hale will present the program “One Family’s Journey from Charost, France to Ellijay, Georgia.” Join Ms. Hale as she takes us on an educational and informative journey by walking in Pierre Chastain’s footsteps across France , Switzerland, the Netherlands, and England as he and his family seek refuge in the New World.Ellen Canup Hale is the daughter of George and Evylene Canup who were well known to genealogical researchers in Gilmer County. Ellen has built upon and expanded her parents’ extensive research into their ancestry by focusing on the journeys of her ancestors in coming to America.
Please place this GCGSI meeting on your calendar: Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilmer County Library’s lower level meeting room. The public, especially those members of Gilmer County’s Chastain family, is invited to attend, and admission is free.
