NOTICE: We have an alternate venue for our January meeting. SMB is doing some updates to our normal location.Join us for an update from the Missouri Department of Agriculture focused on what MDA actually provides to beekeepers.
This talk will center on the apiary inspection program, including how inspections work, what inspectors are looking for, and how health certificates are issued for interstate movement of bees. If you move bees across state lines or plan to in the future, this directly applies to you.
There will also be an overview of current rules and expectations around Veterinary Feed Directives (VFDs), specifically as they relate to European Foulbrood (EFB). The discussion will cover how the State Apiarist can help facilitate communication and coordination between beekeepers and veterinarians when a VFD is required.
The presentation will begin with a brief introduction to MDA’s apiary program and conclude with a short plug for the Missouri State Honey Contest, including a note on the lack of entries from southwest Missouri and why participation matters.
This is a practical, regulatory-focused talk aimed at helping beekeepers understand the systems in place, avoid surprises, and make better use of the resources already available to them.
Relevant for hobbyist, sideline, and commercial beekeepers.
