The award-winning singer-songwriter presents a Sunday afternoon exclusive with her band.Janie Price aka Bird is an award-winning, half-Irish, half-English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in London. She has travelled the world with her music, and recently with her short film Wider Than The Sky – but she spent much of her youth in Sutton and, in a wonderful gesture, is donating all proceeds from this very special event to the Sound Lounge.
Janie has released five acclaimed studio albums, The Insides, Girl and A Cello, Figments Of Our Imagination, Beat and most recently her first film soundtrack, for Wider Than The Sky. She started her classical music training on cello aged six, and at 11, after hearing Led Zeppelin and The Police, decided the drums would be her next instrument.
She played in UK youth orchestras by day and at famous London venues by night, and began her professional career aged 18. Her classical training has led to extensive work as a session musician and songwriter, including composing and recording string sections for Just Jack, playing live with Emeli Sandé and touring with Vanessa Mae. She's also a published author with a BA Hons degree in Design.
As a songwriter she works with such distinguished names as John Paul White (The Civil Wars), Beth Nielsen Chapman, Hal Lindes (Dire Straits) Ed Cosens (Reverend and the Makers), Andy Dunlop (Travis), James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers) and Ally McErlaine (Texas). Janie has also co-written for the likes of Aura, Hooverphonic and The Tennessee Tears.
Most recently, she composed the soundtrack, wrote the script and co-produced the beguiling Wider Than The Sky, a semi-autobiographical work about the extraordinary power of imagination. Singles from it have been featured on BBC Radio 2, 5 Live and beyond, with Record Of The Day describing 'The Tides' as "simply beautiful. Think Groove Armada's 'At The River' meets Röyksopp tinged with James Bond orchestration."
We're even more excited about this unique Sound Lounge event as Janie will be introducing a special screening of Wider Than The Sky to complement her live performance with her band. Doors will open at 5pm and the show will start at 6pm.
