Jane’s Walk London Festival 2024 - Launch Event

Come join us for the kickoff of the Jane’s Walk London Festival 2024! Our Launch Event will take place at London National City Park Fleet Street Visitors Centre, where we’ll celebrate community, urban exploration, and the spirit of Jane Jacobs. Get ready to discover hidden gems, hear fascinating stories, and connect with fellow city enthusiasts. Don't miss out on this exciting in-person event!

We are excited to present our fifth festival edition with an in-person event in collaboration with other grassroot organisations who share our interest in supporting people in leading change, to launch a new lineup of volunteer-led walks across London happening on the weekend May 10-12. Featuring a diverse range of themes including community campaigns, public art, local history and nature walks, the 2024 festival offers something for everyone.

During the evening, we’ll be celebrating the amazing Jane Jacobs, starting with the screening of a documentary by Laurence Hyde featuring Jacobs talking through her ideas, interspersed with some terrific footage of Toronto, New York, London and other cities around the world. We will then present the programme of JWL walks for this year together with members of our community who will be commenting on their experiences of the Festival.

On occasion of this celebration of city discovery and community building, we are also delighted to share the evening with friends from London National Park City who will be presenting their initiative and Dame Jane Roberts, chair trustee at Living Streets who will be talking about National Walking Month.

The event will be an opportunity to come together as organisations and individuals interested in discovering and discussing on-the-ground aspects of our city and network with like-minded people. The idea is to learn a bit more about Jane Jacobs, find out about all the walks happening in May and get to know each other a little better!

We look forward to celebrating this year’s festival with you!

About Jane’s Walk London

Jane’s Walk London is part of the Jane’s Walk network named after urban activist Jane Jacobs and launched in 2006 in Toronto. We are a global movement and a community-based approach to city building that uses volunteer-led walking conversations to create a space for people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking conversations as a way to connect with others.

Jane’s Walk London is proud to be supported by the Young Urbanist Network of the Academy of Urbanism.
