On January 27, the City Council will hold a workshop to define funding priorities. Join Justice Together for a Day of Faith in Action for Housing Justice at Wichita City Hall: arrive at 8:00am, prayer vigil 8:30–9:00am, workshop at 9:00am. Details and RSVP here: tinyurl.com/127action
On 12/16, the Wichita City Council unanimously advanced a sales tax proposal headed to voters in March. The plan sets aside $150 million in an investment fund for affordable housing and homelessness services.
While shelter funding has been emphasized, there is no clear commitment to affordable housing. Research is clear: shelter alone does not end homelessness—affordable housing does.
Although the ballot language is set, the City Council can still clarify spending priorities and demonstrate a commitment to reaching $10 million annually for the Affordable Housing Fund.
Community members are encouraged to contact your council member directly (by phone and email) and raise affordable housing at upcoming District Advisory Board meetings. More details here: tinyurl.com/127action
