“Be the reason someone smiles today.” Those that remember Jamie “Smiley” Donohoe use these words to celebrate the life of the kind and generous teenager killed in a tragic vehicle accident in 2007 in Newbridge, Ireland. Since his passing, Kevin Donohoe, Lynch’s Irish Pub “Transatlantic Tossers” team darts captain, and his family in Ireland have celebrated Smiley’s legacy with an annual golf tournament fundraiser in Newbridge, the Jamie Smiley Donohoe Golf Classic, raising over €50,000 for local charities in Ireland since the inception of the tournament.
This year, Lynch’s Irish Pub and Jax Duval Darts are joining Smiley’s family in hosting a fundraiser of our own, the Jamie Smiley Donohoe Charity Open darts tournament. Net proceeds of the tournament will be donated to Make-A-Wish Ireland. Make-A-Wish Ireland has one simple aim – to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to bring hope, strength and happiness. Participants will have a chance to both support the efforts of Make-A-Wish Ireland and earn a shot at some prize money!
Here are the details of this year’s event:
- When: Sunday, May 26th at 12 PM
- Where: Lynch’s Irish Pub, Jacksonville Beach
- Entry fee: $25 (cash only, please)
- Format: blind-draw doubles; straight-in, double-out 501 in a best-of-three, single elimination tournament
- Cash prizes for first, second and third place teams
- Free beer for participants (while it lasts!)
- Maximum 32 teams
Don’t play darts but want to support Make-A-Wish with a donation? You can donate online either to Make-A-Wish Ireland or Make-A-Wish North Florida. Make-A-Wish receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of those that wish to make a difference in children’s lives, so if you are able to donate, please do!
