About this Event
Tour the Greenwich Village townhouse where chef, author, and teacher James Beard lived from 1973 to his death in 1985. One of the most significant figures in the history of American cuisine, Beard pioneered television as a medium for teaching the art of cooking and emphasized the use of fresh, local ingredients and American approaches to food.
The ground floor of the Beard House served as his cooking school for many years and the building was a beloved site for the chef’s frequent entertaining. After the establishment of the James Beard Foundation in 1986, the House hosted hundreds of the nation’s most talented chefs and served as the venue for hundreds of dining events. Today, the Beard House plays an essential role in the Foundation’s mission to elevate, celebrate, and support the people behind America’s food culture and to champion a standard of good food anchored in talent, equity, and sustainability.
