Join our magnificent Waitangi Festival MC, Matua Sonny, and kapa haka performer and teacher, Matua Te Ukaipo Rangihau, for a fun-fuelled jam session and wahi waiata (sing-along) at Te Anau's popular Redcliff Cafe.Matua Sonny is a valued collaborator with Te Anau Waitangi Day Charitable Trust and a regular at many of our events. He is well known in our community to many of our te reo Māori learners, with decades of experience teaching te reo Māori at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa ki Murihiku across Southland and Otago.
Te Ukaipo is a well-known performer with Ngā Herenga Waka Kapa Haka and a familiar face to folks who have attended our kapa haka wānanga. He is Kaiawhina for Te Reo Māori Level 1-2 at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa ki Murihiku. Raised on the marae by his hapū, his first language is Te Reo Māori, and he grew up surrounded by experts in Māori arts, from music to weaponry.
