Concert included in the official program of EFG London Jazz Festival 2022

Jakub Klimiuk Quintet is a new project combining modern jazz with influences from Scandinavian improvised music, Eastern European folk and contemporary classical pieces. The resultant repertoire, consisting of original compositions, is a highly energetic mix of scripted forms and free improvisation, drawing from various genres but at the same time staying deeply rooted in the jazz tradition.

Quintet’s EP entitled „Reluctance” is a reflection on the uncertainty of current times, a way to express intertwining feelings of hope and scepticism. The album takes the listener on a journey through different sound worlds, from modern jazz inspired by New York scene to hip-hop grooves.

The leader of the band is a guitarist born in Poland, currently a student at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. Jakub is an adventurous composer and an improviser who also has extensive experience working as a sideman with various artists and projects, including prominent figures like Krystyna Stańko or Jonas Kullhammar. In his work, Jakub is focused on blurring the lines between genres and experimenting with musical forms.

The band features in-demand musicians, students and alumni of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and Trinity Laban. Despite the young age, musicians have performed at venues like Vortex, 606 or Ronnie Scott’s and individually worked with Martin Speake, Tom Challenger, NYJO, Morsyca, Donovan Haffner and Húrra.
