On a cold Monday morning, January 12, 2026, Jai Vang, elder name, Chunhia Vaj — a husband, father, brother, uncle, and new grandfather—was detained by ICE while attending what he believed was a routine check‑in at the Fort Snelling Whipple Federal Building in St. Paul. Many currently know Chunhia as a man defined by his life experiences and by his conviction, love, and generosity. His patient, steady voice has long been a reliable source of leadership for friends, family, and community—whether offering simple words of encouragement, cultural guidance, or comfort to those in need, or extending a helping hand to anyone who requires it.
Some may remember Chunhia as Jai, one of the original members of our FIFA HVB team in the early 2000’s. Like many teams in our HVB community back then, what began as a group of friends and teammates has grown into a true brotherhood. Throughout the years, as we’ve gone our separate ways in life—becoming husbands, fathers, grandfathers, professionals, and community leaders—that brotherhood has remained strong.
It is this brotherhood that made Jai’s detainment so shocking and devastating for all of us—and it is what compelled us to act immediately to support our brother and his family.
With their approval, this Pho fundraiser is being hosted by the members of Team FIFA to support Brother Jai and his family. The path ahead for them will be difficult and uncertain, testing them mentally, spiritually, and financially, so we are asking all our friends and family to help us support our teammate and brother, Jai Chunhia and his loved ones during this time of need.
Proceeds and donations will go directly to the family to help bring Jai Chunhia back home.
