About this Event
American pianist Jacob Mason leapt onto the classical music scene in 2013 with a breathtaking performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1 alongside the New World Symphony under conductor Joshua Gersen. Since that debut, Mason has graced the stages of world-class halls and collaborated with leading orchestras across the globe.
His artistry has been featured at prestigious festivals including the Miami International Piano Festival Academy, Piano Lab in Martina Franca, Kaleidoscope MusArt, Tzlil Meudcan in Tel Aviv, and the Birmingham New Music Festival. In Germany, he earned second prize at the 9th annual John Cage Award in Halberstadt. Critics have hailed his “daunting technique and expertise,” “rock-solid precision,” and “an ear for phrasing” that leaves audiences spellbound.
The son of two composers, Mason is deeply rooted in the contemporary music scene. He has been part of innovative theatrical productions such as Senza Ora at Gare du Nord and Christoph Marthaler’s Abteilung Leben at Theater Basel. As founder of several chamber ensembles—including Escape Ensemble and Ex-Sentia—he has championed new music, commissioning and premiering works from leading composers in Europe and the U.S. In 2023, Ex-Sentia closed the renowned Impuls Festival in Graz.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1998, Mason holds a Master of Arts from the Hochschule für Musik Basel and a Bachelor of Music from the Frost School of Music, with previous studies at the New England Conservatory. His wide-ranging training also includes harpsichord and continuo at the Schola Cantorum.
