About this Event

BE SURE TO REGISTER BY TUESDAY 30 JUNE!

Your Alberta Estonian Heritage Society invites you to our 2024 summer celebration the weekend of July 4th-7th! And we are excited to celebrate a weekend event Jaanipäev with a unique experience!

Activities for all ages, 1-100+, of Estonian Heritage or curious about Estonian-ness

The summer solstice is the most celebrated holiday in Estonia!

The Gilby Hall is located on Alberta Highway 12, West of Bentley and Gull Lake. Estonian homesteaders settled the Eckville area and many such families continue traditions of stewardship.

Campers at the Gilby Agricultural Societies Campground must claim their sites first-come first-served. Costs for camping are reasonable, and AEHS welcomes you to join in potluck-style feasting within the comfort of the hall, plus a catered beef on a bun supper Saturday.

A public bathhouse and sauna as well as ample park space with a playground serve as amenities for campers. The Gilby cemetery within walking distance from the campground offers visitors some insight into the area's history, and we will be guiding a visit to the Estonian cemetery upon the former Raabis homestead located a few miles down the road.

RV parking is available in the main loop of the campground, and there is an overflow RV area as well. Ample locations for tenting exist, and again, camp sites are available on a first-come first-served basis, and camping fees are to be paid to Cathy Reddy, the Gilby Ag. Society representative who will make rounds to collect dues.

A little further away, Gull Lake's Provincial Park is a lovely beach for swimming.

Bring your own food in a picnic cooler and meet old and new friends
