This decidedly flat and transit-friendly urban walk explores the J (Silver) Line Bus stations and associated stairways, along the sides/center of the I-110 (Harbor) Freeway. Since each station is a bail out bus-ride back to where you started, you can always shorten this route and take the J-Line back to where you started.
.
Part 1 starts at the Denny's restaurant near the southernmost station at Pacific Coast Highway, with 4 access stairways, two on each side of the freeway, then head northward, mostly along Figueroa, visiting 3 freeway bus stations, each with stairways, as well as two skinny bridges (ped bridges) to reach the end of Part 1 at Rosecrans and Vermont at 9.6 miles. There is also a Starbucks close to the 5 mile mark that can be used for a restroom/water/snack stop. We need to arrive at the lunch stop at Rosecrans by noon, so we can have a full hour for lunch, for those doing both parts.
.
Part 2 begins at 1pm on the NE corner of Rosecrans and Vermont, and visits 4 more stations with stairways, the last of which is the 37th St/USC station at mile 10.2 (19.8 for the full route). There are fast food places at the 15 mile mark we can use as another restroom/water/snack stop. From a planning perspective, you can walk either part, or both, and bail-out by heading to the nearest J-Line station along the route, taking the J (Silver) Line SB back to the start of either part 1 or part 2, go or NB to DTLA is that is where you came from.
.

2.6 - Carson St
7.1 - Harbor Gateway (not visited, only a bail out)
9.2 - Rosecrans Ave
9.6 - End of Part 1 Lunch! (near the corner of Rosecrans & Vermont)
9.6 - Start of Part 2 (NE corner of Rosecrans & Vermont)
12.0 - Harbor Freeway
14.7 - Manchester Ave
17.4 - Slauson Ave
19.8 - 37th St/USC - End of Part 2 (10.2 miles for part 2 only)
This route is not scenic like Palos Verdes, Silver Lake, or Hollywood, and does not visit cool neighborhoods with homes by famous architects. Instead it is an exploration of the gritty urban streetscapes where stair-walkers rarely go, that connect to the J (Silver) Line Bus stations on the Harbor Freeway. it is more like LA Loop Segment A2 or N2.
