About this Event
We’re called Standard Deviation because we, well, deviate from the typical jazz standards. Playing traditional tunes in new styles and new tunes in traditional styles. We are serious musicians who don’t take ourselves too seriously. Made up of premium musicians from around the Inland Northwest, these musicians have played in just about every genre from jazz to sacred, Celtic to classical. Members of this group include college music professors, public school teachers, and students. Members have played respectively as part of the Spokane Symphony, SJO, Civic Theatre, and the United States Air Force Band among many other groups, and have played with such internationally known artists as Ken Peplowski, Halie Loren, Bill Mays, and Grammy Award winners John Benitez and Anaadi. Fueled by nostalgia for classic animation themes and innovative musical exploration, Standard Deviation brings a fresh perspective to beloved cartoon and video game soundtracks such as “Tailspin,” “Cowboy Bebop,” “Castlevania,” and Kiki’s Delivery Service. From the upbeat energy of "The Tick" to the timeless songs of "Zelda," the band infuses these familiar melodies with the sophistication of jazz.
