10 YEARS A CO-OP festival – Day 1: acoustic/folk/americana
Three superb acts followed by a old-time jam session.
Izzie Walsh
After an intriguing year of discovering herself as an artist alongside recording her debut album, Manchester singer-songwriter Izzie Walsh is back and ready to share her new music to the world. Described as “So original and individual” by Bob Harris, expect unique story telling paired with rich powerful vocals that are bound to stir your emotions.
Having played multiple shows and festivals across the UK Izzie has carved a place in the industry as one to watch. In 2023 she was chosen as an international act for Canada’s Hillside Festival and has even graced the stage at Australia’s legendary Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Izzie has been described as folk, americana and even country although she herself does not want to be bound to any specific genre. Accompanied by her trusty Martin acoustic guitar, Izzie is guaranteed to entertain and fascinate all audiences.
Jeri Foreman & Ruth Eliza
Jeri has been playing and loving old-time fiddle for about a decade and is a founder of the Glasgow Old Time Session. After playing all the major folk festivals in Australia, she went travelling and jamming through North America and Europe, settling in Scotland in 2018. She now works as a session musician and tours with a wide variety of projects including The Fountaineers. Influences include Brittany Haas, Bruce Molsky, Tommy Jarrell, Tara Nevins, Rayna Gellert and Rhiannon Giddens.
A well-established clawhammer banjo player on the UK scene, Ruth’s rhythmic and melodic clawhammer style draws on her love of traditional old-time Appalachian music as well as contemporary banjoists. She also plays in Blue Lass, an all-female five-piece old-time and bluegrass band. Influences include Allison De Groot, Adam Hurt, John Herrman, Sarah Jarosz, Abigail Washburn, Chris Coole, Frank Evans.
Join them together and the sparks start flying! Jeri and Ruth have spent many a late hour jamming at festivals and now join forces as a duo to produce powerful, driving fiddle and banjo tunes and songs. Past performances include Gainsborough Old-Time Festival, Fire In The Mountain, Gower Bluegrass Festival and Moniaive Bluegrass Festival.
Catch The Sparrow
Since 2020, Dutch singer-songwriter Catch The Sparrow has called Newcastle upon Tyne her home, brought to the city by her love for traditional folk music. Sparse piano arrangements underscore her haunting voice, with her songs exploring feelings of loneliness, loss, and separation while containing an ever-present glimmer of hope. With the release of her first EP ‘Winter Flowers’ (2022) she has established herself as a captivating performer and masterful songsmith, who blends original and traditional material to create a sound that is uniquely her own.
“…the mark of good folk music has always been linked to communicating the most while doing the least, never overstating or embellishing, yet weaving a tapestry where every thread fits perfectly. Farewell – Here’s The Tender Coming captures that with ease, encapsulating the heart of the genre in a way that’s imbued with heart.” NARC Magazine
