To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps (1775–2025) and honor the legacy of our local veterans, VFW Floyd Foster Post 2060 is leading a mural project depicting the iconic flag raising at Iwo Jima. This mural will serve as a public tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of the U.S. Marine Corps and ALL who have served our nation in uniform. The mural will be conveniently located near the Raccoon River Valley and High Trestle bike trailheads and walking distance to downtown Perry. The event is part of the larger annual Art on the Prairie festival. Attendees are invited to attend the Marine Corps birthday celebration at the Proletariat Bar immediately following the dedication ceremony from 2-4 p.m.
