Double-header Queer Horror Evening: Ivories and Creepy Boys
IVORIES
A horror-comedy centering the disturbed, prodigal playwright Sloane, who has been summoned back to the home of their ailing grandmother to settle the estate. The longer Sloane spends in the labyrinthian decrepit house, the more unsettling their writing becomes, prompting their botanist husband Gwyn to confront the healthiness of their spouse regurgitating family trauma into their masterpiece. Thrown into the fray, Gwyn’s childhood best friend and realtor Beckham arrives to help the couple bury the hatchet… only to discover there may be more to the house, and to Sloane, that lies beneath the floorboards. If the basement is the stomach, then what’s the basement door?
Written and performed by transgendered playwright Riley Elton McCarthy, this formidable play investigates the horrors of returning home as a queer person, finding ones roots and dealing with the demons locked away in ones past. With a mix of non-binary, trans and queer characters, everyone has a story to tell.
Praise for IVORIES:
"Ivories is a unique and intriguing tragicomedy-thriller hybrid, with a fantastic team that has clearly put so much love and care into the production." ★★★★★ Lost in Theatreland
"This show brings horror, chiller with some touches of humour, but most of all what a great theatre show that we loved." ★★★★★ MoreishTV
"A playwright to keep an eye on for SURE! Ivories has it all: tears, trauma, sexual tension, ghosts, laughs & the understanding that nothing (and no one) is ever as they appear to me. The cast is stunning. The script is stunning." ★★★★★ Hailey Green
"Horror fans know the real deal when we see it, and Riley Elton McCarthy's tightly wound exploration of haunting grief is a refreshing case in point." ★★★ The Scotsman
