On 1 November Nürtingen will be celebrating the majestic, gentle, and at the same time mysterious instrument of the Uilleann Pipes, and would like to invite you to experience this special event live.Join for an evening immersed in Irish music: we’ll take you on an engaging musical journey, performing selected tunes, sharing stories and anecdotes, explaining the instrument and its unique sound, and revealing the magic of the chanter, drones, and bellows.
Why this date?
International Uilleann Piping Day is a worldwide event initiated by Na Píobairí Uilleann in Dublin, during which concerts, demonstrations, and “Try the Pipes” sessions are held all around the globe to raise awareness of this remarkable instrument.
We, too, want to be part of this global celebration here in Nürtingen – and show how alive and captivating traditional Irish music continues to be today.
What to expect:
• An introduction to the instrument – how the chanter works, what the drones do, and how the melodic ornamentation is created
• Musical samples – from tranquil, meditative airs to lively, rhythmic tunes
• An informal Q&A session where you can ask questions
Whether you’re already familiar with Irish folk music or discovering the sound of the Uilleann Pipes for the first time – this evening is open to everyone. Come along, be inspired, and join us for a night full of sound, stories, and musical intimacy.
