Youth going into grades six through eight are invited to join the IU Health Wellness Camp to learn about components of wellness through hands-on, age-appropriate, skills-based activities.
We understand that being well is more than just not being sick. Wellness is a multidimensional concept. Our intention is to bring awareness to each component through hands-on, age appropriate, skills-based activities throughout the week. Health is a skill, but often we don’t get time to practice and gain confidence in a particular skill. Learning and practicing these skills play an important piece in prevention and lifelong wellness.
We will bring in professionals to lead activities, and for the campers to learn more about different types of wellness career paths. We will also use community partners to expose the campers to the number of activities and resources in our community.
Below are examples of the activity's campers will participate in during the week:
•Certifications: Campers will take part in classes to become Safe Sitter Certified and learn CPR
•Emotional: Social and emotional activities and discussions
•Financial: Budgeting discussions
•Social: Teamwork and collaborative work
•Spiritual: Exploring what brings us joy and what difference we can make in the world
•Occupational: Bringing in experts in different fields to share their work and explore possible career paths
•Physical: Campers will participate in play, games, and fitness activities such as yoga, hiking, and learn how to take care of our bodies
•Intellectual: Getting outside our comfort zone and learning new activities to keep our brains healthy and growing
•Environmental: Connect with nature through hiking, using active transportation to get to places, and enjoying free time outside
Tentative Field Trips: Leonard Springs, Bloomington Farm Stand Collective, IU, and Bryan Park Pool
