It’s A Wonderful Life / Audition information
Auditions for Its A Wonderful Life will take place at the VPA theater at 251 W. Swanson Ave. Wasilla, AK. on Saturday, September 6th from 2 to 4 pm and Sunday September 7th from 6 to 8pm. All auditions will be in person and will include improv and script reading.
About the play:
A single act version of the classic Christmas story It’s A Wonderful Life as performed by a radio cast live in front of an audience. We will be performing all the sound effects practically as they would have been in the early days of radio.
It will be an unique experience allowing you to travel back in time to a place where television didn’t exist and families gathered around the radio to enjoy a story together.
This will be a cast of around 5 to 7 men, 3 to 5 women and several children. Cast members will have the opportunity to play multiple roles. We will be casting for on stage sound effects crew.
Characters:
George Bailey - middle aged man who always chooses to do the right thing, even if he must sacrifice his dreams.
Mary - middle age woman, George’s wife.
Clarance - the angel tasked with helping George see the beauty of his life.
Henry, Georges’ little brother.
Joseph, Clarances’ angel mentor.
Bert - a cop.
Old man Glower
Billy Bailey - George’s uncle.
Potter - an older man who is the richest, meanest man in town.
Zuzu and Pete, ages 5-8, George Bailey’s children.
Violet Beck, ages 20s - 40s, small-town siren.
Young versions of George, Mary and Harry.
Many other characters.
Rehearsals/Performances:
Rehearsals will begin the second week of September and run until the show opens. Prepare for 3 rehearsals a week. Its A Wonderful Life will be performed November 21st - December 14th.
How To Audition:
Pick a day to come down and audition. When you arrive, please sign in, fill out your audition sheet, and get your picture taken. If you want to prepare a dialogue piece that showcases more than one voice, you will be allowed to perform it. We will have script samples to read and improv activities as well. Come on down and have a great time!
