About the Artists
Scribe and farmer Jade Novarino belongs to a Pacific Northwest tradition of calligraphy through the teachings of Professor Lloyd J. Reynolds, his student Jacqueline Svaren, and her mentor, Gregory MacNaughton. She’s been studying Western calligraphy since 2012, and teaching it since 2019. She approaches calligraphy with mindfulness techniques and offers it as a way to make the everyday world a little more beautiful and intentional. Calligraphy is not only an art form, but a way of life.
Chef and writer Josephine LaCosta has been cooking in and out of restaurants for over a decade, with 5 years of farming experience. Her technique exists in the space between growing and preparing food, where she cooks seasonally while simultaneously working to always preserve seasonal abundance for later use. She currently works at Gracie’s Apizza and together, she and Jade run Fiachra Farm, in Milwaukie, Oregon.
