For the next event in our UNITED Table series, the UNITED and The Dante Society present a special talk, screening, and book-signing with Anna Francese Gass celebrating her 2024 cookbook, “Italian Snacking: Sweet and Savory Recipes for Every Hour of the Day,” and her new television series “Instant Italian with Anna Gass” which launched in March on FYI.In “Italian Snacking: Sweet and Savory Recipes for Every Hour of the Day” Anna introduces the American audience to the complete range of spuntini, with recipes drawn from across the country. She shares recipes for spuntini di meta mattina (mid-morning snacks often enjoyed with a second—or third coffee); merenda, the cherished after-school treat for children (that also offers adults a way to stave off hunger before dinner); and aperitivi, delightful early-evening bites meant to be enjoyed with drinks. Also included is a chapter of delicacies from Italy's robust culture of street food (the one instance where Italians might eat on the go).
Anna is a cookbook author, recipe developer and culinary influencer. Her new television series “Instant Italian with Anna Gass” launched in March on FYI and is produced by Rachael Ray. Known for her ingenious takes on traditional Italian dishes, Anna’s videos have been viewed by millions around the world. Her widely acclaimed first book, Heirloom Kitchen - Heritage Recipes and Family Stories From The Tables of Immigrant Women published in 2021 was featured on Rachael Ray and Today. Anna appears regularly on Good Morning America and Access Hollywood and her recipes are top-rated on NYT Cooking.
Anna grew up in Westerly and moved to New York City to study at New York University. After a successful stint in the corporate world, she realized she was much happier standing in front of a stove than sitting in an cubicle. She quit her high-powered sales job and enrolled in Culinary Arts at the French Culinary Institute to follow her dream. She honed her craft in the test kitchens of Martha Stewart Living, FOOD52 and Whole Foods. Currently, she is a regular contributor to the New York Times, Taste of Home, Washington Post, Bon Appetit and Food52. Follow her @annafgass on Instagram and TikTok.
