A note from chef:
I’m often asked, “What are some of your favorite memories from your New York days?” Without question, my memories are always drawn to my grandmother — a woman who simply could not sit still.
She would tap my arm and say, “Come on, let’s go get something.” Breakfast, then lunch, then snacks, then dinner… then one more snack for later.
Neighborhood delis and Polish bakeries — a whirl of red sauces, steam on the windows, the perfume of roasted peppers and garlic, pierogi butter hissing in the pan — all the sensory delights. That’s where I learned to chase my passion for what I do… and never pass up a good sandwich.
Here, you’ll find riffs on the classics my grandmother and I devoured together — two standouts being Italian roast pork with broccoli rabe and long hots, and breaded eggplant with ricotta and slow tomato. There’s a little Polish heartbeat in the sides and a little NYC corner-store swagger in the condiments.
It’s a memory you can hold with two hands — warm, messy, generous… and meant to be shared, of course.
