Fircroft is an adult education college (19+) situated in Selly Oak, Birmingham, close to the city centre and easily accessible by train, bus and road. The college was established in 1909 when George Cadbury Jr. transformed his family home into a place of learning for his workers, encouraging them to increase their knowledge and skills to help them to meet their potential and pass their learning on to their colleagues. Today Fircroft is a vibrant college welcoming students from across the West Midlands and offering a wide range of short courses – many of which are residential - that include personal and professional development, employability training, courses for those in work, social justice and functional skills. The college is seen as a place of sanctuary for its students who are able to escape from their every-day lives for a short time and focus on their learning. In addition to the picturesque setting and tranquil grounds, the college offers extra support to students who may find learning challenging and are perhaps going through a period of change in their lives. Many students at Fircroft are eligible for free or heavily subsidised courses and because of our funding the courses cost at most £150 including accommodation and food, whatever their duration.
