The Athenaeum's outdoor movie series, Flicks on the Bricks makes it possible for you to enjoy classic movies that you love while enjoying the beautiful summer night on the patio of the Athenaeum.



The Athenaeum’s popular film series, Flicks on the Bricks, returns in August for its 15th year with the best Screwball Sparring Matches. Guests are invited to join us on the outdoor patio for balmy summer nights and screenings of classic cinema al fresco. Series tickets for the open-air theater include three memorable films. This year the film series are curated and presented by KPBS film critic, arts reporter, and host of the Cinema Junkie podcast, Beth Accomando. She also programs films for Film Geeks San Diego.


Flicks on the Bricks Year 15! Another tantalizing offering of outdoor cinema on the Athenaeum patio in the heart of La Jolla. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Come join the Athenaeum for hot summer fun!


Oscar winner about a runaway heiress on the lam from her father, and the reporter on her trail. As they travel northward and engage in a series of misadventures, the gruff newspaperman and the spoiled young lady begin to fall for each other.

The films will be shown in person and outdoors on the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library patio. There are no physical tickets for these events. Your name will be on an attendee list at the front door. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Seating is first-come; first-served. These events will be presented in compliance with State of California and County of San Diego health regulations as applicable at the time of each event.
