Talk Description
Cybersecurity careers aren’t always linear. In this talk, Sherawn Jackson shares her unconventional path from the movie industry and creative arts to offensive security. A military spouse of nearly 16 years, Sherawn has held diverse roles including business owner, educator, nonprofit IT leader, and manager—each contributing valuable skills to her cybersecurity career.
Now a Senior Information Security Engineer on Wells Fargo’s Offensive Security Research Team, Sherawn discusses how adaptability, community involvement, and transferable skills can lead to success in cybersecurity. She’ll also highlight her leadership experience with Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) and offer insight for those considering a career transition or growth in the field.
Speaker: Sherawn Jackson
A Senior Information Security Engineer on Wells Fargo’s Offensive Security Research Team, bringing a uniquely diverse background to cybersecurity. A military spouse of nearly 16 years, Sherawn’s career spans creative, technical, and leadership roles, beginning with a BFA in Computer Animation and work in the movie industry. She has since served as a general manager, small business owner, ESL teacher, and nonprofit engagement and IT leader.
Sherawn is a strong advocate for community and inclusion in cybersecurity, having volunteered with Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) from 2020 to 2025, including serving as San Diego Affiliate Secretary and Vice President. Recently relocating from San Diego to Chesapeake, she continues to leverage her broad experience and passion for learning to drive impactful offensive security research and mentorship within the cybersecurity community.
