The Box Office is open.We open with the wild and sensuous dance Delilah uses to seduce Samson in Saint-Saëns's Bacchanale, before welcoming Adrian Brendel to the stage to perform the last solo concerto Dvořák wrote, his Cello Concerto in B minor; a piece admired for the richness of its orchestral music and for the lyrical writing for the solo instrument. Our Autumn Concert ends with Beethoven's Symphony No 5 in C minor - 'Fate' - widely recognised by the ominous four-note opening motif often interpreted as the musical manifestation of 'fate knocking at the door'.
