Ismaouni Choreography Workshop with Jill Parker
Join us in person for an exciting choreography workshop led by the amazing Jill Parker! Whether you're looking to sharpen your dance skills or just have fun, this session is perfect for all levels. Dive into the rhythm, learn new moves, and connect with fellow dance lovers. Don't miss out on this awesome opportunity to move and groove together!
Track by Musicians of the Nile "Ismaaouni" is a classic Arabic song that translates to "Listen to Me".
The version by Musicians of the Nile is a lively high energy folkloric instrumental rendition of the classic, featuring mizmar, rabab, and driving rhythmic tabla.
The choreography you'll learn is an homage to Jill's early dance inspiration, Hahbi'Ru - with its line formation, and earthy folk "village" feel you can almost taste Northern California Renaissance Faire Vibes of the 1990's - which were in themselves an homage to the Northern California late 60's and 1970's Renaissance fair bellydance scene of Jamila's era.
You'll find Jill's choreography taking that inspiration and imbuing it with her trademark sensuous gooey goodness, keen musicality, and a bit of cheekiness! The piece is a blast to perform.
This choreography will be great to have under your belt when the right opportunity presents itself to perform with Jill or on your own! The choreography learned in this workshop may be performed only by those who have taken the workshop directly from Jill Parker.
