Andrew Russell

Andrew Russell, born in Cape Town in 1964, grew up as a white South African under apartheid. He attended Bishops College and the University of Cape Town, completing a B.Comm, a postgraduate diploma in Human Resource Management, and a High School Teaching Diploma. After two years of compulsory National Service, Andrew taught for eight years before launching his tourism business in 1997. He founded Cape Africa Tours and the sports charity sport4kids. In 2018, he became the business manager for Christo Brand, Nelson Mandela’s former Pr*son guard. Andrew also edited the updated 2022 edition of Brand's book, *Doing Life with Mandela*.

About the book

In these current times of global strife and uncertainty, we need role models we can turn to for inspiration, guidance, and genuine leadership. Now more than ever, we need to take stock and push the default setting button. The default setting for global leadership in modern times is Nelson Mandela. He is the leader we need.
Mandela was a unique leader: the simple rural boy who selflessly endured what he did in life to become, in the end, a reluctant president. In the book Conversations with Myself, he said, ‘My installation as the first democratically elected President of the Republic of South Africa was imposed on me much against my own advice.’
Now, more than ever before, we need to remind ourselves of what qualities he possessed, and how we can learn from his example and become better people and leaders ourselves.
