Are we alone in the universe or is there extra-terrestrial life out there? Join us for this panel discussion and hear what the experts have to say.
The question of whether life is unique to our own planet has fascinated humans for millennia and has been the focus of many a work of science fiction – the subject of our latest blockbuster exhibition.
But how are real-life scientists looking for alien life? Where in the universe might we find it? And what will it look and behave like if we ever do encounter it. To discuss some of these questions, a panel of experts from the fields of astronomy, zoology, chemistry, and Earth sciences from the Leverhulme Centre for Life in the Universe, come together to share some of their insights.
Speakers include:
Professor Didier Queloz—Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Life in the Universe and Jacksonian Professor of Natural Philosophy in the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. Winner of the Nobel Prize for Physics for the 1995 discovery of the first exoplanet.
Dr Emily Mitchell—NERC Independent Research Fellow in the Department of Zoology at the University of Cambridge.
Professor Nicholas Tosca—Associate Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Life in the Universe and Professor of Mineralogy and Petrology in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge.
Professor Nikku Madhusudhan—Professor of Astrophysics and Exoplanetary Science in the Institute of Astronomy at the University of Cambridge.
Professor Chris Jackson (Chair)—Geoscientist, science communicator and Director of Sustainable Geoscience at Jacobs Engineering Group.
