About this Event

What will happen to Canterbury’s identity, services, and representation as Kent moves toward major local government reform?

The government is pressing ahead with plans to abolish District and County Councils across Kent and replace them with larger Unitary Councils. In this public talk, Dave Wilson sets out what we know so far - and explores the very real risks for Canterbury:

  • Fewer councillors and more remote decision-making
  • The likely loss of funding for non-statutory services
  • No Town Council to inherit civic functions
  • And no current plan to preserve our City status or Lord Mayoralty

As a former City Councillor and experienced practitioner in local government and public services, Dave will guide us through the structural changes underway, their implications, and what we can do to influence the outcome - before it’s too late.

This event is hosted by the Canterbury Society as part of our civic awareness and engagement programme.
