Panpsychism is the view that consciousness is a fundamental feature of the physical world. According to this perspective, the complex experience of the human or animal brain arises from more basic forms of conscious experience present even in particles such as photons and quarks. An increasing number of philosophers, and some neuroscientists, take panpsychism seriously as a possible solution to the mystery of consciousness. This talk will explore why the idea has gained attention and what it implies for our understanding of mind and matter.
The speaker, Dr Philip Goff, is Professor of Philosophy at Durham University.
