The History: In 1858 Orson Merrill established a foundry near the Rock River which later became Beloit Iron Works, and ultimately Beloit Corporation, manufacturer of the world’s finest paper-making machines. When the company went bankrupt in 1999, the 800,000 square-foot space was abandoned and thousands were left without jobs. American businesswoman, Diane Hendricks, and her late husband, Ken, purchased the property in 2001 and began redeveloping the large bays into high-end commercial spaces for local companies and tech startups. The campus was named “Ironworks” to pay tribute to the early days of the manufacturing companies that called it home. Today, Ironworks Campus is home to nearly 20 companies and more than 1,500 employees.
The Walking Tour: “What Beloit Made, Made Beloit” is the theme for Beloit Heritage Days 2024, which honors the industries that were part of building up Beloit. We are pleased to offer the opportunity to join Irontek staff for a walking tour to see how this historic property has been fully reimagined into attractive office and creative spaces, and learn about new developments in the works.
