Come join us for an inqugrual IRON SHARPENS IRON BBQ COOK OFF benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Gulf Coast on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM located at New Harvest Ministry 1126 Hutson Drive, Mobile, AL 36609.
Admission is $5 Donation
BBQ COOK OFF RULES
1. We are aiming for 8 team to compete. Each team can consist of 6 participants. The cost to enter the cook offis $50 per team.
2. Each team will be assigned a cooking space. The contestants are responsible for ensuring it is cleaned and remains orderly. Constents shall provide their own equipment and supplies. Sampling cups and forks, as well as boxes for meat turn-ins to judge, will be provided to each team.
3. This is a BBQ competition, therefore, fires shall be of wood and charcoal only.
4. Teams may arrive at 5 a.m on the day of the event and begin cooking as early as 6 a.m. Gates will open to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
5. All meat must be inspected upon arrivel before cooking begins. All meat must be seasoned day of event and not before.
6. All teams must be prepared to serve samples from 11 am until 3 pm to the public. Samples can include any BBQ foods such as baked beans, potato salad, macaroni & cheese, etc.
7. No alcohol or profanity.
8. Judging will begin at 1 pm. Judging of the meat will be based on presentation, taste and tenderness. Sauce is optional. If sauce is included, it will be included in the judges’ overall score. Catergories include: Ribs, Boston butt, and desert. Each team must compete in the ribs and Boston butt category to be considered the overall winner. Desert entry is optional and can be prepared the day before. First, 2nd and 3rd place will be
awarded in each category.
9. Each team will be given a fundraiser bucket that will be taken up at 3 pm. This will be for the People's Choice catergory. If the public likes your food, they can leave a tip in your bucket. The team with the most tips raised for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Gulf Coast wins the People's Choice Award.
