About this Event

The theme for this year’s conference is 'Being Well'. All of our workshops are linked to the 7 attributes of Being Well identified by the Primary Curriculum Framework for all Primary and Special schools (NCCA, 2023).

09.30 - 09.45: Keynote Address


Participants choose one workshop (subject to availability) from each time slot.

Workshop Descriptions


Title of workshop: Being Well Through Tennis

Presenter(s): Martina Petina

School/Organisation: Tennis Ireland

Workshop blurb: Teachers will be introduced to a set of progressional lesson plans, designed to take place in a small space, safely. Acting responsibly and showing care towards self and others will be woven into the workshop through examples of activities demonstrating maximum and fun participation. Playing tennis provides a lifelong physical activity, and will help students and teachers develop a keen sense of connectedness within their school and wider community.



Title of workshop: Feeling Included

Presenter(s): Susan Marron and BEd 3 PE Specialism Student Teachers

School/Organisation: DCU

Workshop blurb: Teachers will be provided with practical knowledge to plan to include further all children in the PE lesson to contribute towards their social, emotional and physical wellbeing. The DIPPE website resource toolkit will underpin the workshop content. It will focus on children being able to participate with growing confidence in skill and physical activity, and act responsibly showing care towards self and others.



Title of workshop: Getting into 'the spirit' of Yoga

Presenter(s): Caitriona Cosgrave

School/Organisation: Scoil Áine, Raheny & IPPEA Executive

Workshop blurb: This workshop will explore using Yoga techniques to enhance children’s sense of spiritual well-being. Through a range of practical breathing and movement activities (with and without the use of props), participants will focus on how to bring yoga to their classrooms/PE halls in order to promote a sense of purpose and meaning in children’s lives.



Title of workshop: Enhancing Being Well through European School Sports Day Activities

Presenter(s): Helena O'Sullivan & Cory Monoghan

Workshop Blurb: Discover how European School Sports Day activities can enhance student wellbeing and align with the new PE curriculum timings. This workshop offers practical, inclusive ideas to inspire active participation, foster a love for movement, and support whole-school wellbeing. Leave with tools to energize your school community through creative and engaging activities.


Title of workshop: Step into Being Well with Zumba

Workshop blurb: Are you looking for something fun, motivational and for EVERY BODY? Then why not consider this Zumba dance workshop? Zumba is a universally inclusive tool that is perfect for participating with growing confidence in physical activity underpinned with the development of Fundamental Movement Skills. Zumba's core principles can help teachers to create enjoyable, engaging lessons for pupils.

Workshop blurb: Discover innovative ways to integrate Irish into PE with Corpoideachas trí Ghaeilge! This workshop introduces COGG’s exciting new athletics resources for junior and senior infants, featuring fun activities, songs, and games. Explore the new website packed with PE resources for all strand units and gain insights into CLIL strategies for language integration.



Title of workshop: Bizzy Breaks for Bizzy Bodies and Bizzy Minds

Presenter(s): Christine Duff

School/Organisation: Irish Heart Foundation

Workshop blurb: This workshop will provide a host of ideas for short movement and active mindfulness breaks to use throughout the school day. You’ll build your ‘bag of tricks’ for quick and easy classroom activities to energise or calm, and explore how to adapt any activity for different ages and abilities. The session will be relevant in supporting children to ‘be well’ by making good choices, increasing confidence and skill in PA and developing their self-awareness and resilience.



Title of workshop: Being Well in the Outdoors

Presenter(s): Maura Coulter, Grace Cardiff & Deirdre Ní Chróinín

School/Organisation: School/Organisation: Student Voice in PE

Workshop blurb: In this practical outdoor workshop adventure you will engage with using your voice and making choices through outdoor challenges. You will have fun, make fire, whittle, take risks and then reflect on your experiences. Wellbeing qualities such as persistence, flexibility, self-awareness and resilience will be explored.
