About IrDEA
District energy systems are utilised widely across European cities and towns to deliver low-carbon, low-cost heating and cooling to homes and businesses. District energy systems allow integration of any and all sources of heat; it is fuel and technology agnostic, meaning it supports the implementation of heat from all renewable and low- carbon sources. There is currently enough excess heat in Ireland to meet over 50% of our heating demands, and this figure is growing with increased industrial activity. This is why district heating is so important for the future of the Irish energy system and the Irish District Energy Association (IrDEA) is here to make it happen.
Dr David Connolly is founder and Chair of IrDEA and led the Heat Roadmap Europe project, which has been one of the most influential EU projects in the district heating sector. Donna Gartland is a founder and Director of the Board of IrDEA and is CEO at Dublin’s energy agency Codema, where she notably helped to secure almost €25 million in total for the Docklands District Heating System and the Tallaght District Heating Scheme through the Climate Action Fund. Yvonne Murphy is the first CEO of IrDEA and has over 15 years experience working in policy and advocacy across academic, political, non-profit and private sector.
