Block 1: Foundations, Rhythms and Styles of Iraqi DanceIn this 4-week block, we’ll focus on understanding the different types of Iraqi music and dances—what’s what, how to tell them apart, and how each style looks and feels in the body. We’ll break down key rhythms and learn the essential movements that go with each one. The aim is to give you a well-rounded introduction to the core elements Iraqi dance, from folkloric styles to social dances and professional performance.
Access to quality, hands-on instruction in Iraqi dances can be tough to find, especially in person, which is why these classes are so special. Our instructor, Andrea, brings authentic style and deep knowledge, having learned through extensive private lessons with world-renowned experts as well as years of performance experience within Sydney’s Iraqi community.
