We start the Iranian movie nights with one of the most beautiful works of the influential author, Abbas Kiarostami.Kiarostami, with his unique observant camera that makes his work move subtly between documentary and fiction, follows individuals of his films in the nature in silence, in a journey of exploring minimal yet existential questions. He pictures the embracing of life and its meanings, and Taste of Cherry is a perfect showcase of this theme.
Many know Taste of Cherry as the peak of Kiarostami's success. It is also the first Iranian movie that won Palme d'Or in Cannes festival in 1997.

About Iranian movies nights
The movies that are selected for this cineclub, are phenomenal in the sense of their authentic achievements and contributions to the Iranian cinema, though they belong to the less known, art cinema rather than the mainstream. This selection is out of the stereotypical and political image of Iran, rather, the idea is to watch gems from Iranian artists to be inspired to think and talk about their universal, humanistic, social, and sometimes poetic themes. Discussions about the movies after the screening are much appreciated.
