The story of Rosemary Sanders, the first African American musician in the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, as well as the history of African American musicians in symphonies across the United States, will be told through a documentary trailer being produced about these topics. Following the 15-minute video will be a panel discussion that includes Helen Ursery-Binion, who is the daughter of Rosemary Sanders; Marvin Curtis, Ed.D.; Justus Zimmerman, Executive Director of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra; and Kristie Erickson, Deputy Executive Director of The History Museum. The exhibit Invisible Player will be on view. Self-guided tours of the Worker’s Home, now interpreted as the home of a 1950s African American family, will be available from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.
Admission is $5/general; $3/members. Reservations are required by October 14.
