Join us for a social hour, video screening, and community conversation!Tonight's topic is about investing in neighborhood housing without pushing people out.
Can a neighborhood see transformation and new development in a manner that doesn't push out the people who already live there or make their rents skyrocket? The answer is a resounding “yes,” but it's not easy.
The video will feature: Durham-based real estate developer Tiffany Elder, who has spent years grappling with this challenge and teaching others about it as a faculty member at the Incremental Development Alliance. In this session, she will delve into the complexities of housing development, discuss how to create investment strategies that benefit both developers and communities, and explore ways to prevent displacement of existing residents—sharing plenty of her own examples of both successes and failures along the way. Elder will be joined by Daniel Herriges, former Strong Towns Editor in Chief and co-author of a new book, Escaping the Housing Trap: The Strong Towns Approach to the Housing Crisis.
Community discussion to follow with local special guests.
This series is for all Little Rock residents, and especially those who are, or aspire to be, active in community development, transportation/mobility, housing, and city budget decisions.
