Mountain bikes, Paragliders, Packrafts, Carabiners, Camelbak, Crocs, 3 pin bindings and a bunch of other outdoorsy equipment make our mountainous home a recreational paradise and they didn't exist until people in towns like this invented them. Living in our paradise is also expensive, so if you can invent your way into fortune, you can spend less time working and more time in those mountains with said gear. Inventions don’t come from geniuses born with an unattainable gift, rather from people who get annoyed by a limitation in their gear or their pursuit of fun and start to wonder whether there is a better way. This is often where their journey stops… or where their journey used to stop! To connect our outdoors recreation community and our invention community Adventure Hub and The Workshop are collaborating for a night of exploration of outdoors inventions for OddHours.
The evening will showcase some groups of people from mountain towns who came together to create successful inventions that we now use daily – their origin stories, their critical collaborations and technologies and how these might relate to your ideas. We will also hear from Dave ‘Irish’ Anderson, inventor and Adventure Hub speaker about his Queenstown based invention the Hydrohük and Mikkel Johannessen the inventor of Fox Folk who has created the Dirtskirt - armour to keep your carbon fibre mountain bike safe on the trails! Finally we will hear about the facilities and possibilities available at The Workshop. Come along, bring some friends, meet some interesting people and think more about the life of an inventor.
Cost: Free - but a koha/ donation is very welcome to help keep the incredible Workshop running.
