About this Event
The award-winning journalist and writer Luke Harding will talk about his latest book 'Invasion'. Luke has been reporting from Ukraine since late 2021 and is the Guardian's former bureau chief in Moscow. He comes to Exeter from the frontline of Europe's biggest conflict since 1945. He will discuss why Vladimir Putin launched an all-out attack, how the war has changed international relations and what prospects there are for peace. (Answer: for now, almost none). In 2011 Luke was the first western reporter to be expelled from Moscow since the Cold War. He will discuss Russia's transformation from semi-democracy in the 1990s to what is today a dictatorship and - arguably - a fascist state.
After the talk there will be a book signing and an opportunity to buy 'Invasion', kindly organised by Exeter's independent bookshop, Bookbag.
