Introduction to Knife Making
About this Event

This knife making course is a 2 day intensive. Students will learn the detailed process of making a proper high-end handmade knife.

This course will teach you every step for forging a hidden tang knife; from creating the blade from a raw piece of high carbon steel, to the final finishing of the wooden handle. A hidden tang knife is one where you cannot see how the blade is fixed to the handle, as the back part of knife is completely hidden.

You will use a traditional coke forge to heat the steel, and hand hammering techniques to create the blade profile. After sanding and filing it to a refined shape, you will learn how to heat treat it by hardening and tempering it in the fire. You will then learn how to properly sharpen the blade’s edge.

To finish off the knife, you will make a wooden handle from scratch, filing and sanding it to a beautiful finish, and then sealing it with oil.
