About this Event
Introduction to Yoga CourseGet to grips with yoga basics, with Yoga Hero’s Introduction to Yoga Course.
Mondays, 6:15 – 7:30pm
Yoga Hero's Introduction to Yoga Course is perfect for those new to yoga, those who have tried and enjoyed a few classes, and those wanting to immerse themselves in the basics and techniques behind the practice.
Each week starts with the explanation of a concept, some time to try it out and ask questions, and then a yoga session with relaxation to finish.
Week 1 - Breathing and the Importance of the Breath
We will cover the importance of the breath in a yoga session, explore techniques, and try these out during our practice.
Week 2 - Sun Salutations
A sun salutation is a flow of postures which serve to warm and stretch the muscles, ready for our yoga session. In this session, we run through the salutations, covering the benefits, check points to look out for and variations to suit every fitness level.
Week 3 - Postures, and finding the right postures for you
Looking into the postures (asanas); covering correct alignment, modifications for different fitness levels and the benefits of each asana. Exploring ways to fit yoga into your lifestyle, outside of classes.
Week 4 - Relaxation
We focus on using yoga to relax. This includes making the most of savasana - corpse pose - which allows the nervous system to return to normal, and helps calm our busy minds, as well as using the above yoga techniques as stress relievers at home. We also look at stress, how can affect us and, importantly, how to manage stress levels both on and off the yoga mat.
About Kath
200hr Vinyasa Flow RYT | 50hr Yin | 50hr Restorative & Yoga Nidra Vinyasa Flow | Unwind & Relax | Meditation | Mindfulness | Chair Yoga | Yoga for Runners
Kath has been practicing yoga for over ten years, and qualified as a teacher in 2018, graduating from the first 200-hour Vinyasa Teacher Training at Yoga Hero in Leeds. Since then, she has developed her offering by training Yin Yoga, Restorative & Yoga Nidra, and Chair Yoga. Kath has also studied an Advanced Anatomy course with a focus on arm balances.
Kath’s vinyasa classes are dynamic yet nourishing, with a focus on building strength and flexibility, whilst working with the breath to find focus and calm the nervous system. In addition, she enjoys teaching slower styles of yoga, geared towards finding deep rest and relaxation to help relieve stress. She aims to make classes as accessible as possible by offering variations for students to modify the practice to best suit their needs.
Speaking about her approach to yoga, Kath says; “On a personal level, yoga has had a huge impact on my life - not only physically but on a mental, spiritual and emotional level too. To me, yoga isn’t about whether or not you can do the splits or stand on your head - it’s about developing a deep connection with yourself and others; and this is something I’m passionate about sharing with all of my students.”
