Where is the course run?

What skill level should I be?
The course is designed to build on the skills and techniques you have learnt in our Introduction to Woodwork - Hand Tools 1 course. Please make sure you have completed our Hand Tools 1 course as we like to ensure everybody is at a similar skill level. We do this to make sure all participants get the most out of the day and can learn as much as possible.
What will I learn?
After learning how to use the basic tools such as saws and drill on the previous course, participants will venture into more advanced tools and joinery. We will demonstrate how to produce three of the most common joints found in furniture and cabinet making. You will use a new range of hand tools such as chisels and learn different ways of marking and measuring to create some basic joints of your own.
As with all of our courses we try to answer all of the questions we can as we know people come to these courses with a project in mind. There are no silly questions!
What else is included
Another main aim of this course is to empower people to be able to complete their own jobs or projects at home and give them confidence in their own woodworking ability by developing skills. We want to make people comfortable using timber yards, tool suppliers and places such as Leeds Wood Recycling
Who is the tutor?
We have a pool of experience makers from a range of backgrounds, such as furniture/ cabinet makers and restorers, luthiers, picture framers, eco and site builders and joiners.
What do I need to bring?
All tools are supplied. Lunch is not supplied so make sure you've got some with you. Please wear clothes suitable for dusty work and sensible shoes. We provide the hot drinks and biscuits for the break. Please bring warm clothing – we recommend you bring layers – it can be cold in our workshop even in summer.. It's also a good idea to bring a notepad and pencil so you can make notes!
Where can I park my car or bike?
There is free car parking opposite LWR (it’s free to use for LWR participants.) You're welcome to bring your bike in the warehouse to keep it safe.
A small note
Leeds Wood Recycling is a social enterprise and not-for-profit organisation, so it’s good to know that by enrolling on a course with us you are supporting your local community. We offer up to 2 free places per course as a thank you to our long-term volunteers and members of staff. This experience gives people who are marginalised from the job training market free experience and training which can help them develop and make positive changes in their lives.
