Join us for an engaging introduction to winter bird feeding and the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) — the world’s largest citizen science biodiversity project! Sponsored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Audubon, and Birds Canada, the GBBC brings together bird lovers around the world each February to count and report birds in their local areas.This session will:
Explain the history and purpose of the GBBC, happening February 13th–16th.
Walk you through how to participate using eBird.org with detailed, beginner friendly instructions.
Introduce the basics of winter bird feeding and bird watching, including tips on feeders, food types, and attracting common backyard species.
Help you learn to identify and count local winter birds, from chickadees and cardinals to woodpeckers and finches.
Offer insight into winter bird walks, with an overview of common resident species in our region and where to find them.
Whether you’re a lifelong birder or just getting started, this program will help you enjoy and contribute to this global event while deepening your connection to the birds in your own backyard.
