Introduction to the Neuroscience of Dance - Movement Experience for 55+
Discover how dance can help you stay sharp, feel energized, and enjoy life more fully. This one-hour introductory class explores the powerful ways movement supports both brain and body health. Research shows that dance can boost memory, spark creativity, lift your mood, and even help prevent cognitive decline and dementia.
The session begins with a short, clear and engaging talk on the science of movement and aging, followed by a gentle, accessible movement practice. No dance experience is needed, and all activities can be adapted for any level of mobility.
This introductory class is just the beginning! A regular series of classes will follow, each focused on using dance and movement to support wellness and quality of life.
Blair Cronin is a Monterey Peninsula native and the founder of Groove Carmel, a community-based dance program that offers classes in a variety of locations for dancers of all ages and levels. With a Master’s in Dance and Expressive Arts from Lesley University, Blair believes in the power of movement to spark creativity, confidence, and connection at every stage of life. Her teaching blends play, inclusivity, and cultural awareness, shaped by training with companies such as AXIS Dance (inclusive dance), Pilobolus, and West African dance intensives in Senegal. Blair has taught in schools and community settings for many years and continues to deepen her practice through ongoing professional development in accessible and creative dance education.
